Sheffield, UK – Saturday 1st June 2024 - In an event celebrating the roots of football, a blue plaque was unveiled today at 9 East Parade, Sheffield. Attended by honourable guest Colonel Geoffrey Norton, the Master Cutler, Charles Turner, The President of Sheffield FC, Alan Methley along with representatives of Sheffield Home of Football and Sheffield Councillor Denise Fox. Directors of the long-standing residing company at 9 East Parade, Norrie Waite & Slater also attended. This ceremony marked a significant milestone in recognising the birthplace of Sheffield Football Club, the world's first-ever association football club.

The blue plaque unveiled bears the inscription:

“SIR NATHANIEL CRESWICK KCB July1831 – 20 Oct 1917 Co-founder of Sheffield FC in 1857. His Solicitors office was located here. Creswick used these offices to support the development and administration of the world’s first and oldest football club. Local pioneers gathered here to discuss innovation which helped to shape the evolution of modern football.”
